Do you remember when Unions required a majority vote in order to call out their members to strike, walk out etc. Apparently not any more.

There was a Public Sector Strike yesterday – did anybody actually notice?

I would also like to know why Union Leaders called a Strike when the MAJORITY vote to strike was NOT carried. Is this another example of Union democracy. The workers voted NOT to strike, so the Union called them out!!

Of 2.5 million public sector members, only 750,000 voted to strike – so according to Socialist Union democracy – they called the workers out on strike. Like Sheep – they followed.

Lets run through that again. 2.5 MILLION members voted. 750,000 voted to strike. Since WHEN has the minority vote been a RESULT?

The figures are according to the BBC news today.

No different to the general election, how many of the populate vote (less than 50% I'm sure) but the result still stands :)

Moved to members lounge :)

I stand corrected but it wasn't one vote, each union had a vote and if the majority of voters in each union voted for the strike then that union went on strike, so the cumulative figure doesn't really matter. Going back to the general election analaogy it's like saying the winning party shouldn't have won because the other parties totalled up got more votes than them.

BBC figures so I go by them, I do not know if the 2.5 million was one union, which I doubt, or a culmulative total of all votes. But overall, less than a third voted for; not a strike ballot in my eyes.
