View Full Version : Turn That Cr*p Off!!!
What are your all time WORST songs - you know, the ones you really cannot stand and have to turn the radio off when they come on.
My examples are:
Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham
I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whintey "pass the rolled up fiver" Houston
Angels - Robbie Williams (I know this choice may not be popular with a lot of people but it's overplayed and soooo karaoke)
Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
First one that springs to mind is "Don't Speak" by No Doubt - I absolutely can't bear it!!
also
"I Want To Know What Love Is" - Foreigner.....Arghhhh!!
Bryan Adams - Everything I Do (makes want to be sick!)
Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around
*puts fingers in ears and shouts "la-la-la-la-la I'm not listening!*
Anything by Neil Young or the Eagles

At the time,I hated loads of chart stuff from the 80's,but nowadays they all seem like classics.familiarity I suppose.
however, these days, The Streets,Lily Allen,The Kooks and most R&B/Rap will have be reseting the dial ;)
I fact anyone who sings with an affected accent or contrived voice (see also Anastasia,Joss Stone, etc)
Totally agree Daz - can't stand anything by The Streets or Lily Allen - the over emphasised accents do my head right in - no need, not cool and so chav-tastic!!!
Oh yeah, and Return Of The Mack by Mark Morrison - seeing as this was the first tune of his I'd ever heard, where was he returning from? The loo? The dole office? A late shift at Burger King?
We all know where he went though - prison!!!
Anything by Simply Red, makes my skin crawl, I HATE them!
The one I really hate is that Titanic theme tune.
Cant even remember what it is called.

Altered Images - who told Claire Grogan she could sing?
Kim Wilde - I soooo wanted to look like her but jeez she sung like she had a blocked nose and someone was trying to iron her earlobes.

 OMG - I totally remember this because I phoned up to speak to them live that day on Swap Shop (sad I know but I was only 6 or 7). The reason I can remember this is because I couldn't think of anything to say to her and my mum said to ask her if she hurt her head when she'd just banged it, but I bottled it and put the phone down before going on air. I wasn't even a fan of theirs so God knows why I was phoning. I think my mum put me up to it.

I really hate all this new R n B,to me it all sounds the same and is irritating as hell...the worst offender at the moment is Unfaithful by Rhianna..I can't stand her whiny voice...the actual melody isn't bad it's just the lyrics and HER!!!
Simply Red I agree with you all, can't stand them and Destinys Child...well I'm sure one day they'll turn around and say "Yes Bills,Bills,Bills was a rip off of the Ompaa Loompa (sp?) song"
I hate all those rap videos where the guys are trying to be cool but they just make me laugh.

Italo-House outfit Black Box, though the vocals were taken from an old disco classic by Loleatta Holloway. The 'vocalist' from Black Box then went one better than the muppets who used to mime their vocals on TOTP by actually miming someone elses, which was rather amusing at the time! :o

Oooh baby i love your way, can't remember who sung it. late 90's
Various people have done covers of this, but in the 90's it was "Will to power" ... Atlantic star sang it but not sure who did it first ... think originally it was a reggae number ...
sixtyten
24-01-2008, 23:07
Not a reggae tune at all. The original was by Peter Frampton.
The reggaefied version in the 90's was by Big Mountain
I thought it was originally a reggae piece because I have the sheet music to it in a reggae volume (piano music) ... I've just pulled it out and you're right of course, the score shows that it was written by Peter Framtpon ...

She was waffling on in NME about how she never wore any underwear when on stage ( eighties) and soon after that she was due to appear at a local club.
She came on stage and me and mates shouldered our way through the masses to get up close and personal , we ducked as one , only to see a frilly blue thong -grrrr! she's a big fat fibber!

"Chain Reaction" by Diana Ross and The Bee Gees sets my teeth on edge! I used to frequent a certain sleezy club in Glasgow in the 80's and the DJ would play this towards the end of the evening when I wasn't drunk enough to tolerate their falsettos and wanted to smack Ms Ross and rip her wig off!

Emotion, i think it was Destiny's Child. They should have been shot! Samantha Sang's version was soooo much better.
I think to sum up the whole thread, 99% of 'music' is bloody awful!!!!
Couldn't stand Elvis as a child. My Dad never stopped playing his stuff around the time of his death in 77. Never liked The Beatles either. Thought they were great song writers but not my cup of tea musically. Some of the innovative ideas on Revolver are impressive though.
The song i can't bear at the moment is Shine by Take That. Mark Owen should leave the singing to Gary Barlow.
What comes to mind right now is PUSSYCAT DOLLS! ... Absolutely irritating

Just no.
Also Sensitivity by Ralph Tresvant, All Summer Long by Kid Rock - if you're going to rip off a couple classics then come up with something worthy. That peace thing Miss Dynamite did to Faith by George Michael - all that hype and the moment the music starts you instantly think 'Well I guess it would be nice if I could touch your body'. Pointless.
I can't bare to hear none of this recent rubish that they are feeding kids with these days.
I'm talking about commercial music, and catchy R&B rhythms like reana or whatever her name is, and the extremely anoying hard core house rave music that the yobbs listen to in their stolen peugeots 206s. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH, it just pushes me to the limits. Really is that bad!
So what your saying is, you don't really enjoy today's music, soul. ;)
I guess you could say that.
I hate the material they are releasing now a days, because it just influence teens into a way of life which is going out of control... but then again, you could say that about the 70's, or is it that I'm getting old!?
Not all of it is bad though, take that made a nice comeback, without roby williams... thanks god for that.
It's not that he's a bad artist, is that he's too cocky, self centered and an egotist p****.
There are some nice songs, but compared to 80's and 90's where 95% of the music released was good, acording to my statistics, now it's gone in the oposite direction.
Is music dying?

Who put this on?
Been banned from the said Dukebox
Everybody Knows it's Chirstmas (Yes, WE KNOW!!!) by Perry Como. Makes me want to thow the telly through the window or get an axe to it.

I don't need to say ,much about Kate Bush's singing, especially when the moggy starts meeoooowing (especially with the current weather) to go out/be fed. Even called her kate Bush once.

Any song by Phil Collins. I search the back of compilation albums to make sure they haven't snuck one on. (Inevitably they have.)
They're ALL the same these 60s/70s/80s/Christmas compilations that keep coming out. They have the same songs and artists but hardly ever the (possibly deliebreatlt ignored/forgotten_ obscure classics that only got mentioned once and that's it, BACK TO OBSCURITY.

Most of today's music is crud, but if you want specifics, here are the songs I personally cannot stand:
'Vienna' by Ultravox, an overblown piece of pretentious self indulgence
'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' by Bonnie Tyler, another of the same ilk.
'Ride On Time' by Black Box, boring dance nonsense.
Anything by Britney or Lily Allen.
'Ire Feelings' by Rupie Edwards, utter nonsense.
Anything by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, so boring.
All Rihanna stuff except 'Russian Roulette' which was actually a decent tune.
'Love Is Blue' by Paul Mauriat, depressing.
'99 Red Balloons' by Nena, puerile.
'The Birdie Song', 'nuff said, my friends!
'Barbie Girl' by Aqua. Pointless, boring, stupidity.
I also hate 'Take My Breath Away' by Berlin. I cannot STAND Terri Nunn!
And I hate 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' along with all charity records.

I agree with Koukou- anything by Simply Red I reach for the 'off' knob.
Also:
'The Living Years' by Mike & The Mechanics
'A Spaceman Came Travelling' by Chris de Burgh (though this is usually only played at Christmas)
'The Power Of Love' by Jennifer Rush
That song by Kenny Rogers with the lyrics "Promise me son, not to do the things I've done..." (etc. etc. Redneck bar-room garbage!)

'Don't Go' by The Hothouse Flowers

Same here. In fact, apart from the great soul divas, I'm not overly a fan of female singers - in particular, step forwards the wailing banshees Shakespeare's Sister and Alannis Morissette - Aaarghhhhhhh!!!

The problem with rap is that only the gangsta stuff gets thrown about. There is good rap. The Beastie Boys were great. Jurassic 5 too. Lupe Fiasco. Roots Manuva. De La Soul. MF Doom. All head and shoulders over the usual gangsta silage that most people recognise as rap.

MF Doom
to me rap has no real skill about it when it comes to lyrics.
No disrespect Darren, but I strongly suggest that you have a listen to MF Doom,
It's unlikely that you would suggest that he has no skill when it comes to lyrics if you give him a go.
I feel that I have to stick up for hip hop here.
Most of the stuff referred to here isn't hip hop, it's pop rap, there is a huge difference.
Hip hop isn't just music, it's a culture which also includes DJing, breakdancing & graffiti art.
Real hip hop doesn't necessarily glamourise the money\guns\women thing, unlike the pop rap that you are used to hearing.
I am a fan of many different kinds of music, & am a musician myself. I work with hip hop artists & they are all lovely people.
Obviously everyone here is entitled to their own opinions, but as with all kinds of good music, you have to dig a bit, you don't have to put up with what the mainstream pushes on you, there is always good music of all varieties out there, you just don't usually hear it on daytime radio.
Like I said, i'm not trying to disrespect anyone or their opinions, I just want you to see that most stuff labled as hip hop isn't real hip hop.
Real hip hop is about peace, unity & having fun !
any of the modern (c)rap that spews its content out of passing car windows. For some reason the moron behind the wheel deems in necessary for the entire neighbourhood to hear him before he is within a half mile. I confronted one in a filling station, would you mind turning that (c)rap off, I am trying to use a thing called a brain. He said that if it was too loud, I was too old. I replied that it was not too loud, as I am a Sabbath fan; but its the moron who is playing it thats too loud.
Yes, I hate that sort of thing too...I often think they could put those metal posts with the twisted cotton thick ropes you find outside nightclubs, a few bouncers and start charging people to dance around the car as they boom out their cr-p like a mobile nightclub...its pathetic. Roll on their tinitus!
I also hate Gangsta (C)RAP and Chase n Status - they are awful...

Amen Brother. The mainstream stuff gives rap and hip hop a bad bad name. I can understand why people don't like it, it sounds very similar in passing, but a lot of the good stuff covers topics many of us here could relate to. Such an eclectic sound that can nurture the mind.
On a side note, people playing music loudly doesn't just stem from people playing gangsta rap. Every type of music gets abused this way. People can just be obnoxious to other peoples personal space.
hey mate no offence taken.
ive never heard of pop rap.

if its pop rap then why is it not called what it should be called its giving hip hop a bad name.
It's down to the media, lazy journalists call pop rappers hip hop artists to make them appear more credible.
Real hip hop is a very underground thing in 2012, the record labels like to associate their 'artists' with a scene, it happens with lots of pop music.
True hip hop is not very popular at all, it's artists are not very well known & make little money, they do it for the love of the culture.
Because of this, 95% of the music that people are angry about because they hear it hear booming out of cars isn't hip hop, it's just masquerading as such.
Just because something has rapping on it, it doesn't mean that it's hip hop.
Thanks for the open mindedness Darren bud, MF Doom is an amazing lyricist, however, his music is not easy to get into upon your first listen. Stick with him & you will be rewarded !
And just to get back on topic, I also hate hearing music playing out of poorly equipped cars. House music in particular.
(Yeah, i know I said that all kinds of music are good earlier, but we all have to dislike something. I think it helps to put things in perspective.)
i
thats fine mate.
must say im not a fan of any music being played loud out of car windows.
