Yeah.
My favorite is Bombay Bad Boy with the wicked hot sauce sachet, it's that hot it says 'keep away from eyes'.
I remember when they came out as then they were made by Golden Wonder 21p I seem to recolect paying for them. Beef 'n' tomato & chicken 'n' mushroom were the only two available at first.

LOVE 'EM!!! My fave is the Beef 'n' Tomata variety. With a couple of slices of buttered white bread to dip in the yummy gravy.

I always preferred Pot Rice but can't seem to find them anymore!

we used to take pot noodles on camp and excercise with the air cadets and the c.o used to go nuts as she used to say it was not proper food , but when i used to point out the nutritional value of them she could not really argue
As some of the cadets used to skip meals as it was too much hassle to cook when you are cold , these were ideal .
personally i like the chicken and mushroom and if you change the letters around you get "NOT POODLE" apparently this is true .

Hi Steve,
I was in the Air Cadets too mate, for over 6 years and had a very similar situation, especially when you were doing hill walking and I remember packing loads during the Duke of Edinburghs Award expeditions!! was always cold up Cairngorm or Aviemore and a Pot Noodle worked wonders when you needed that wee extra boost..Did you also used to make the 'Nutitious drink' with half of a stock Cube stirred into Hot Water? lol.. kids dont know how luckty they are these days, I loved my time in the Air Cadets and made many many good pals, most of which I have still..taught me a hell of a lot about life and dealing with people...;0) good days...
all the best...

I seem to recall way back before Pot noodles, there was a smaller instant noodle in a pot thing called "Oddles".I assume these swiftly became Pot Noodles, but no-one else remembers them.Used to be advertised with an old western guy on his porch ion his longjohns as I recall ;)

I was in the female section of the ATC and have fond memories too. Almost crash landing the glider at the RAF camp in Cheshire. Being gassed out of the tent by a faulty gas bottle on a Dof E award. Countless old folks Xmas parties where we would sing the war songs and hand out tissues for the tears. Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph and selling poppies the day before in town. Good days!
p.s supposdly navigating a chipmunk and going in the completely wrong direction.
Does anyone remember POT SWEET ? in the mid eighties launched by the makers of by Pot Noodle.
Was dried apple and blackberry that you added water to and there was a separate bag of crumble to sprinkle on top.
Were actually quite nice.
Please tell me they existed because everyone I ask looks at me daft!!

Oh I quite agree Ruby! But have you tried the new Princes microwave meal pots yet? They seem more like 'real' food than the Pot Noodle/Rice things.
But then again Thank god for Super Noodles.... all I can get our little one to eat at times... one of those and chop a pepperami into it and she is in heaven!

And this is what we're getting
Noodle doodle motor cars
Noodle doodle houses
Noodle doodle sailing boats
Eek, noodle doodle mouses

Daz... you've activated the old memory banks there mate... I think they were called 'Oodles' and they were manufactured by KP. I remember the old guy in the rocking chair outside his shack-cum-house.. and the theme tune was a guitar-based affair... I even remember some of the lyrics..
'Now I know it ain't easy cookin' this grub,
You have to boil a kettle and pour it in the tub,
Still, there ain't no dishes left to scrub,
When I'm (trying?? eating??) these KP Oodles'
Cheese and tomato pot noodles, nah,,,,,yucky.

I've read this through and the mention of cheese and tomato ones rang a bell but I knew it wasn't pot noodle, finally the realisation dawned that the smelly and disgusting concoction I was thinking of was a powdered baby food I used to give to my kids.
Talking of which who remembers the rice and apricot heinz baby food in a tin, it was lovely, I took some on a school trip to Paris.

I think that's a top tip Daz - saves the hassle of washing, peeling, stewing and straining those apples for Apple Sauce yourself !! Bet a small jar/can of the baby food would cost less and be less wasteful too :D

Chicken and mushroom Pot Noodle is still something I crave now from time to time.
And add in the comments about Farleys Rusks, and I'm thinking about a whole new dipping combo!
I got so excited as a kid when i was bought my very own pot noodle....gawddd sad i know, but it was such a big thing, it was a chicken and mushroom one from a supermarket called Hillards.
I felt like Charlie Bucket when he bought his chcolate bar ...everyone stood around as we waited for the kettle to boil haha you get the picture.
The one i could not stand was the sweet and sour one, the last thing i ate before i got appendicitus.
There was also Potmash, never tried it tho.
And im sure out at the same time Quicksnack...maybe by Knorr, not sure tho.

Super Noodles!!!
Now you're talking :). I LOVE curry flavour Super Noodles (with added curry and chilli powder etc, yum). Great comfort food. I've never had a pot noodle though. Are they suitable for vegetarians? If yes I'll get one the next time I do a shop. What flavour would you recommend for a beginner?

I used to love pot noodles, right from when I first tried them in the mid 80's to probably the late 90's.
Now for some reason I don't really like them. I have recently discovered Koka Noodles though, they're so nice, and only cost about 25p a packet. If anyone sees these in their shop you should really give them a try.

I remember these, thought no one else did, they were spaghetti shapes weren't they like spaghetti hoops. They just disappeared. I had a board game which had all the shapes on it and the noodle doodle man (as I called him) who looked similar to the man on the ready brek box before it became a dragon.

I like chicken and mushroom and i love the curry pot noodles.I had a chicken and mushroom the other day when a tooth abscess blew up in my mouth. It was a real god send,as i could hardly eat anything for days.I wish they would put more in the plastic jars and drop the price more, even with the king size ones,i would buy loads of them.
BRING BACK POT SWEETS, I kept telling all my mates about these gorgeous things and they never heard of them.
Bring em BACK
I was a Pot Rice man myself, the curry ones were lush. Only other Pot Noodle I liked were sweet and sour. I remember picking the peas out before I put boiling water on them because I hate peas. Sadly I don't see either of these flavours now.
There was another pot noodle made by Batchelors or Knorr. They came in bigger than usual oval size pots, the cheese and ham one was amazing. They were really expensive though, where a Pot Noodle was like 70p these were £1.29. Felt like a proper meal instead of a snack though. I reckon they couldn't compete with the other brands, I used to grab them from the local (now defunct) Kwik Save when I was working the changing rooms in a rugby club when I was a teen. Me and all the bar staff used to use the big urn full of boiling water to make ourself noodles (along with Bovrils if it was particuarly cold). They used to stink the club house out.
im not but can u et pot rice anymore.
i sure preferred them over pot noodles.
and i think pot rice where not as fattening as PN'S.
GOING BACK MANY YRS I WOULD HAVE ATE 4 POT NOODLES A DAY MY WEIGHT SURE BALLOONED.

I remember that ad! Cartoon style if I recall...!
Btw, talking of 'pot meals', Heinz do a range called 'Taste of home' thesedays. They are the size of a Stork margarine tub and are really nice. You get things like:
Lancashire Hotpot,
Beef Stew and Dumplings,
Chicken Casserole,
can't recall if there are others but surprisingly you get REAL meat and veg in each pot crammed to the brim! Reminds me of how food used to be sold...Delicious heated in the microwave with some sliced bloomer bread and margarine/butter....! And extremely filling!
The only baby food I would ever dream of eating is Farleys Rusks, yum :o
Still eat them! First time a while back I bought a pack and opened the foil and the smell was just the same as always...love to dip them in a cuppa tea or warm some milk, pour over them in a bowl, crush em up and nom, nom, nom.
Back to Pot Noodles...my parents used to say they first came out in pots the size of Stork Margarine tubs, then changed to the taller format to accommodate the water. I always preferred the Golden Wonder version as they were much tastier. The green pots the nicest imho. Once in a while I go through 'cravings' for them and eat them.

Heinz Noodle Doodles? Oh, yes! I know they were just basic pasta in fancy shapes, but to me it was just so different from "ordinary" tinned spaghetti. Later on, there were several types of canned pasta shapes available, but Noodle Doodles were the original and best!

Bring back Cheese & Tomatoe Pot Noodles
I second that. Cheese and Tomato was my favourite flavour. I remember they changed the recipe (for the worse, of course), and then it disappeared altogether. With today's Pot Noodles, I find myself having to add plenty of soy sauce to put back the flavour that the government's Health Police have advised all the food manufacturers to take out (I could start another thread on that topic, but here's not the place).

Likewise, preferred pot rice, never tried pot fish, was also pot spagetti, pot pasta.
They've changed the instructions too - used to say 'pull back the foil lid, pour hot water to the marked level and re-cover lid and wait 2-3 mins for it to all absorb the water' now they stupidly say 'tear the lid off! Pour hot water in! (no mention of level)' I still make it 'the old way'....
I still make it 'the old way'....
yup me too ;)
come to think of it,........... What instructions??

The proper way was to fill it right to the top, put the lid back, then once it was soaked up dunk some bread into it.

instructions but why do you need them.
have not had one in donkeys yrs.

sometimes i put in brown or red sauce and sometimes both.
i just put the water in till it reached the top.

Are my fella and myself the only people who remember KP Quick Lunch from the early 80s? Very similar to Pot Noodle, but in my opinion had much tastier noodles and flavours.
They were a real treat when I was a kid and I didn't get them often. Must be at least 30 years since I last ate one, but still I get cravings for the Spaghetti Bolognaise flavour! :)
i think i do remember these hun.
why is it they do away with the tastier things.
can you remember all the flavours they did.
