When I was in first school I read a series of books about a Griffin..all I can remember is the Griffin and that I really liked the books but I can't remember the name..Did anybody else read them??
Also, does anyone remember the childrens annual called "Bimbo" ?

Yep, Bimbo was a penguin who looked like Baby Crockett from the Beezer - they were drawn by the same artist and both were published by DC Thompson. Bimbo's best friend was a white either poodle or teddybear.
Stumped on the Griffin tho...

That's right, Bimbo was a penguin! Thanks Aidan for jogging my memory.
I think the Griffin book will remain a mystery forever..no one has ever heard of it :(

Woooooohooooooo!! Thanks Spider!!
This has been bothering me for YEARS.
I found out that the writer of Puddle Lane, Sheila McCullagh, was the one who wrote these books.."The Griffin Pirate Series".
I can stop thinking about it now lol :D

I've never heard of these. Hopefully I must be too young :D or they never penetrated my neck of the woods.

I have children that are going through school now and a lot of their homework is reading. I used to love reading the pirate books at school. Anyone remember these? There were different coloured pirates depending on your level of expertise. I remember getting excited going from one colour to another! Anyone know if they are still in print, what they were called or where I can get them from?

Hi ,
I remember these books. I was only thinking about them the other day. Like your self i used to look forwards to going from one colour book to another colour. I would love to own a set just for the memories. Also do you remember the Alpha and beta maths books we used to use in maths lessons?.

Don't remember who wrote the pirate books, but they used to bore the **** out of me!

Much preferred the Village With 3 Corners, had a pretty dark mythology for a kids' book series.

Yes I remember these Pirate books very well. In fact I learnt to read with them. I think they date back to the 60's and were so good that they perservered into the 70's.

It's funny, these books were one of the few that were actually any good. Everything else schools gave you were the most boring they could find !

These books taught me to read too. I remember that as the series went on, they were a bit more difficult than the last. I enjoyed reading them and the stories were engaging. Thanks Sheila K. McCullagh.
