  • Magic Pen thingy??

    Hello,

Steven from Liverpool here. Cracking site.

I can remember a toy years ago, maybe 70s/80s but cant remember what it was called. It looked like a few pieces of Mecanno stuck together. You'd attach two pens. When you doodled with the pen on the right you'd end up with a duplicate image from the other pen. Does anyone know the name of it?

    Thanks a lot.

They were sold in Australia as the E-Z Tracer. I remember Simon Townsend waffling on about it on Wonder World, he called it the E-Zed Tracer, the whole idea of calling it E-Z (easy) went right over his head.

                I also had one,
I remember the absolute frustration at getting it to draw even the simplest of things.
Definitely better in concept than in practice that one.

For the nerds among us - it's a 'Pantograph'. Details here.
Their light of pocket torch, of signal flare,
Licks at the edge of unsuspected places,
While others scan, under an arc-lamp's glare,
Nursery, kitchen sink, or their own faces.
