  • Clothes from the past that are still cool to wear today

    Hi all,

I'm virtually oblivious to fashion, but was wondering what clothes from the 70's, 80's and 90's are still cool to wear today? Are there any clothes that you are glad you didn't throw in the trash or charity shop because 'they might be trendy to wear again someday'?

    Have your say here!

I notice that these started to come back in to fashion a couple of years ago, tbh I don't think they ever looked 'cool'.....well I wouldn't wear one anyway

I still wear Sportswear (what I did in the 1980s like Tracksuit Bottoms and other Sportswear even the type what are now Tracksuits but would once be deemed as Shell-suits).

I always liked the Sweater Shop in the 1990s very much and have collected quite a variety of the Sewaters in the last 15 years or so. Looking in Charity Shop's is a great way to find these unique Sweaters I find. The last oine I got was a bargain indeed at £4.50 or £5.50.

Apparently Top Shop "Mom" jeans are flying off the shelves - my daughter recently managed to get a pair online, prompting me to try and find a pair too. Called "Mom" because they are the exact same shape and cut as the classic high waisted Levi 501 straight leg jeans that we wore in the 80 s, ie "what your mum used to wear". I can't find a pair, but have just bagged an unworn pair of proper 501 s on eBay - why did they ever go out of fashion? You don't get "muffin top" with a nice high waist, and the cut is SO flattering. So nice to see that shape making a comeback, I LIVED in mine back in the 80s, til they fell to bits.
I still have a black shift dress with beads on the front that I wore to go clubbing in throughout the 80s, I'll never part with it. It was my mums once upon a time and has been taken in and let out so many times according to my shape over the years. A few years ago I dug it out and wore it again to an 80s nostalgia gig (Human League, Kim Wilde etc), with court shoes, fishnet tights and Lacey gloves. It's an important part of my history.

I have a pair of octagonal Ray-ban sunglasses that I was given in 1992. Totally unique and I still wear them occasionally as they really suit my face shape and I love the unique-ness of them.

Ray-ban have a few iconic frame designs, the Wayfarers were fashionable in the 1950s-60s, & again in the 1980s, so must be due for a revival any time.

The Aviators have never really been out of fashion. If I could afford a pair I would have some with prescription lenses.

They're particularly popular among hipsters. So much so that it's not unusual for males to wear women's jeans.

TBH I don't think that men's fashion has changed that much in the last 20 years, I've watched some programmes from 1993 and some of the fashion you could still wear today. I know that my wardrobe closed its doors in 1995. I have never been into up to date fashion.
