Cheese or jam fritters which are sandwiches dropped in the deep fat fryer; or fried in the frying pan. Also as you see sometimes today: deep fried Marsbars More of a Scottish delicacy I believe

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

                Re: Puddings and & Desserts

I do not believe my mother ever served a bought pudding in her entire life. As for granny... at the very thought! All our puds were home made.
Off the top of my head these are my childhood favourites...

                Hot or cold puddings:
Semolina with jam (or ground rice)
                Chocolate semolina (or ground rice)
                Treacle tart
                Egg custard
Fruit pies -- apple, bilberry, mince, etc.
                Stewed apple
                Coconut and jam sponge

                Hot puddings:
                Jam roly poly
                Spotted dick
                Other steamed puddings:
                Sponge
                Treacle
                Syrup
                Ginger
                Lemon
                Fruit
                Christmas
Apple crumble also blackberry and apple, etc.
Rice pudding (never any left over to eat cold)
                Bread and butter pudding
Soufflé and soufflé omelette with jam
                Pancakes

                Cold puddings:
                Banana custard
                Lemon pudding
                Jelly
                Fruit salad
                Apple, gooseberry, strawberry fool
                Apple charlotte
                Blancmange
                Junket
Trifle -- but only for very special occasions!

Of course hot puds were mostly served with custard or white sauce, NEVER cream which was pure luxury.
