name of american 80's movie...

im trying to remember the name of a 80's american movie that i have fond memories of.

all i can recall is that it was about a man that got sent to space and a bright energy blinded him, so when he came back he had to always wear sunglasses, i do remember that a gang were after him, because he had some powers...

thats all i know, i know it isnt alot to go on but thought someone might know..

it was very americanised, none of the actors were famous that i can recall.

any ideas guys?
