dark horror film with dead bodies being used as puppets...

Hello, my first post on here - please help.

When i was a kid in the 80s a i watched a dark little film where this bloke was using 2 dead bodies as puppets, and the kid that was watching the puppet show didnt realise until late on and t was really nasty little twist - it was only when you saw the puppets close up you could see they were actually dead people. It was virtualy a silent film i think. Set in a rural or farm type area, american i think. Was on late night on Channel 4 i think circa 1984, though the film was probably quite a bit earlier than this.

Not much to go on sorry, but never seen it since, big kudos to anyone that can answer this one.....!
