  • Smiley Culture

Smiley Culture has died during a police raid on his home in East Surrey. I only hope his only major hit, POLICE OFFICER, gets reissued on CD as, for some reason, it ISN'T on any commercial '80s hits compilation CD.

Police Officer was based on when he was caught by the police with some marijuana, but they let him go when they found out he was a reggae artist.:cry::cry:

He will be sorely missed. 'Police Officer' was my first intro to Reggae.
Their light of pocket torch, of signal flare,
Licks at the edge of unsuspected places,
While others scan, under an arc-lamp's glare,
Nursery, kitchen sink, or their own faces.

Wow, didn't see this coming. Cockney Translation was a excellent record. I think he paved the way for people like Roots Manuva too, which is no bad thing.

Anybody noticed that 70s/80s/90s CD compilations're ALL the same?
          They don't have obscurities like
          I'LL BE BACK (1990S)
          zambezi (1980s)
          Chalkdust (1980s)
          o, Superman (1980s)
          on them.
          WELCOME TO HELL!!!
