  • Classic 8/16 bit game remakes for modern computers

I'm not sure if there's already a thread for this - has anyone found a remake of a classic videogame from the golden years of home computing (starting at the ZX81 / Vic-20 and leading to the Atari ST / Amiga era) that they'd like to share? We're not talking pixel-perfect emulation - we're talking updates that keep the gameplay that we know, love and crave and polish it up with fancy graphics, sound (and possibly new features) - that DO NOT RUIN THE ORIGINAL GAMEPLAY!

    I'll start out...

    Rescue On Fractalus

OK - How about Mercenary (by Novagen) anybody? It contains the original, the Second City, Damocles and Dion Crisis all in one small Windows package - tested on Windows 7!

If any of you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, there is now a new emulator app called, "Atari's Greatest Hits" with which you can revisit some old favourite arcade type games. No idea about quality but it's available on iTunes and you can read about it here: http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/07/...pad-and-icade/

It comes with PONG - which - while it's not my fave - is absolutely spot on. Yaay! See also Commodore 64 emulator, ZX Spectrum emulator and FROTZ(free!) for iPhone - but I digress...
