Gonks

Did anyone else have a gonk in the early 70s?
They were all the rage then and I had a purple one, which I loved dearly.



I have to admit though, they were poorly made and pretty rubbish really

They were about in the 80's and 90's too. I seem to remember buying them on school trips, and my very first car had them stuck all over the dash by the previous owner.

When one of my younger aunts moved out from my Gran's house she left a shelf of gonks & other gimicky items 1970s teenage girls collected.

I remember there was also a couple of rainbow effect glass horse figurines.

I posted a comment on here a couple of years ago about my owning a Gonk that used to look down at me from the top of a wardrobe in my bedroom. I didn't find it cuddly, I found it very unsettling! But I was very young at the time. I still had the thing in the 70s. When I looked them up on the Internet, I saw their varying shapes, sizes and styles and searched for ages before I found one that looked like mine.

They do look a bit rubbish. Reminds me of the furry pencil cases with eyes that you used to get in the 80's.

This Gonk is closer in appearance to the one I had.

I had one of those too! It was also purple

Even earlier!! My brother's first girlfriend made me on when I was 7 ( 1969) and him one too. Out of old striped pyjamas with wierd hair and big stitched eyes! i still have them and I am now 49.... but they are pretty awful though beautifully made and sentimental!
