twisted sister is an american heavy metal band from long island.
The band is generally categorized as glam metal for their earlier work. however the band does not consider themselves to be so.

the band was formed by guitarist jay jay french in december 1972.
all of their songs were written by dee snider from 1976 onwards.
snider told david letterman the proposed name for the band was to be THIS.

but was rejected for fear of fans saying This sucks.
He described Twisted Sister as Slade meets the sex piostols.

I remember knowning someone who liked them in the late 1980s, but they seemed to slip under the radar for me apart from that joke in Flight of the Navigator.

I remember Ozzy Osbourne saying in an interview that Twisted Sister were the most "straight-laced" people he'd ever met in the business because they went to church, didn't drink and didn't smoke.
