    The rubettes were an english pop band assembled in 1973 by the songwriting team of wayne bickerton then the head of a and r at Polydor records and his co songwriter Tony Waddington.

    The band emerged at the tail end of the glam rock movement wearing trademark white suits and cloth caps on stage.
    Their first release sugar baby love was an instant hit remaining at number 1 in britain for four weeks in May 1974.
    while reaching number 37 in the u.s that August.
    and remains their best-known record.

    further releases would be less successful but the band continued to tour on the nostalgia circuit well into the 2000s.

    Alan Williams (born Alan James Williams, 23 December 1948.
    John Richardson (born John George Richardson, 3 May 1948.
    Mick Clarke (born Michael William Clarke, 10 August 1946,
    Tony Thorpe (born Anthony John Thorpe, 20 July 1947.
    Pete Arnesen (born Hans Peter Arnesen, 25 August 1947.
    Bill Hurd (born William Frederick George Hurd, 11 August 1948.

    Of the original Rubettes line up only Richardson Williams and Arnesen participated in the recording of sugar baby love.

    What about Paul Da Vinci? Wasn't he the lead singer on Sugar baby Love and had a solo hit with Your baby ain't your baby anymore?
