  • RIP Kevin Ayers

Heard the very sad news that brilliant musician and songwriter Kevin Ayers died in his sleep at his home in the south of France yesterday. He was only 68. Those of you of a certain age will remember him for being one of the founder members of prog/jazz/fusion band Soft Machine. I really got into his music whilst still at school in the 70's and The Confessions of Doctor Dream remains one of my all-time favourite albums. Last saw him in concert a few years ago at the Brook in Southampton. Wonderful gig. He was still quirkily and eccentricly English and that deep baritone voice was as strong as ever. RIP Kevin.

RIP Kevin. Big fan of the Softs, but mainly the later stuff after Kevin left.
