  • Fighting Fantasy game-books

The Steve Jackson/ Ian Livingstone series, they were fantastic!

I pretty much had all of them (still have most of them).

    Anyone else?

Had a few of the earlier ones back in the day:

    Deathtrap Dungeon
    Island of the Lizard King
    Caverns of the Snow Witch
    House of Hell
    Space Assassin
    Seas of Blood

I'm not sure I ever played one through without cheating though.

Went through a Dungeons and Dragons thing myself and ended up with a few of these type of books. Can't remember what they were now it was so long ago. I think I must of also cheated to get to the end of them.

I played Tunnels and Trolls which was a book based game I bought from a shop called 'Games' in Manchester Street, Liverpool.

Only had The Warlock Of Firetop Mountain. I think that was the first one they published. Had some great fun with it back in those days. I might have even cheated by working backwards from the last page and finding the correct page references, but still very entertaining.

I bought the first three in a set from a school book fair as a kid, Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Citadel of Chaos and Forest of Doom I think were in it. I was hooked and bought more, although my original childhood ones got given away or sold.

I have recently bought some to replace them though, this is them, although only one has the proper original cover that I had:

Nah that'll do me for now. I really wish i'd kept my original ones though as they came in a hard case which had cool artwork on.

I loved these Fighting Fantasy books. I was sure I had more than the 3 (Citadel of Chaos, Star Strider and Beneath Nightmare Castle) that are on my bookshelf, they must be somewhere in a box in the attic. Must go and look for them sometime.

Interesting article on the BBC site re Fighting Fantasy books.

Pretty sure I never experienced levitation during reading (see the article!)
