  • Hudson Ford, "Pick Up The Pieces!

It's funny how certain songs evoke special memories of your past. For example, the song "Pick Up The Pieces" by Hudson Ford reminds me of when I started secondary school back in Sept 1973.

"Eye Level" by the Simon Park Orchestra and "I've Been Hurt" by Guy Darrell are more songs which evoke vivid memories of my early days at secondary school.

I loved The Strawbs too from whence Hudson Ford came. Bursting At The Seams remains an old LP favourite.

I remember the 1973 steel strikes in Cardiff against British Steel's proposed closure of the GKN East Moors steel works and we all wore 'Steel Must Stay In Cardiff' badges (still got mine). My Dad worked there for over forty years. On one of the public rallies they repeatedly played The Strawbs singing Part of The Union. The works finally closed in 1978 so the song may have helped prolong its operation
