  • children book with talking trees

I read this in 1990, and this is all I can remember. This book was not that big, had thick papers (thick like the pages from most song books, not think like easy to rip paper), and had a greenish cover. I think there was a girl and her younger brother on the cover, I think both had dark brown or black hair, boy had short hair, girl had hair pulled back (I think in ponytails). The only pages I can remember are the girl laying in her bed dreaming of a mean tree (the tree appearing in a dream cloud above her), the girl talking to the "mean" tree (looking away from the reader) (I think a nicer tree was standing beside it), and I think a page had the mean tree appearing in light in a dark forest. The tree if I remember right resembles the scary trees from Disney's Snow White. I do not think this was a Snow White or Wizard of Oz book, I think was more of an educational book. Any ideas? (It is not "the Ghost Eye Tree")

I also think this was a book about recycling. One of the pages short of looked like this picture with a girl talking to a tree (from "East of the Sun, West of the Moon" by Mercer Mayer),

    But this is not it.

The "mean" tree looked much like this evil tree from Disney's Snow White animated feature:
