            Re: RIP Patrick Macnee

Macnee's portrayal of John Wickham Gascoigne Beresford Steed made James Bond look like an uncouth amateur. A WWII Royal Navy veteran, Macnee refused to be seen using guns as Steed, as he had seen first-hand what they could do; so the umbrella and bowler hat became integrated into Steed's fighting style.

If you can, track down a copy of his autobiography Blind In One Ear. It's a cracking read, and full of surprises. I promise you you'll be entertained.

            RIP, old chap.
