  • Van der Graff Generator

I was a big fan of there's and still have most of their stuff on vinyl aswell as Peter Hammill's solo recordings. Never hear people speaking about or see articles about them these days. Anyone else with memories?

Didn't know anything about a reunion but would be interested in any current news on the band. Was a bit of a Hammill freak bought all the books of poetry etc and his/their sound was very unique. Music to slit your wrists to as Mrs P would say, and the only person to sleep through one of their concerts!!!!

They reformed a few years back after Hammill had a Heart scare and wanted to get the band back together in case he never got the chance again. They toured the Uk and Europe and recorded a new album called "Present".Jackson has now left but Banton,Hammill and Evans are still touring.
My favs are Darkness(11/11),Plague of Lighthousekeepers and Man-Erg

Black Box Recorder's only big hit was Facts of Life, but they also released Child Psychology,England made me,School song, among others..great band. Maybe you are getting confused with Peter Hammills solo career as he released an album called ..a Black Box

PS a Back Room title on one of Hammill's LP's (can you still use LP's) was the only reference to above discussion I found however my collection probably ended around the early 80's

Really great stuff. Hammill was some lyricist too. Did you see them on Sounds of the Seventies, amazing. I rememer Hammill on some sort of Jukebox Jury thing on the radio, just when Wham were on the rise & he slagged them off rotten, that was so funny. Everyone's going, oh it's great, he's saying no it's not its meaningless commercial c r a p.
