  • On a mission to find a wrapper

    Hi there,

I got to the forum, having searched for a couple of hours to try and find an image of the sweet wrapper for Spanish Gold sweet tobacco that was around in the 70's in the UK - it was a waxed wrapper mostly red - white at the sides, and in my memory it had images of a pirate on it - a bit like Captain Hook, spanish doubloons and a treasure chest?
Does anyone else remember this - I've got loads of people saying I'm havering - making it up - if you aint Scottish, and am on a mission to find the wrapper.
    Can anyone help!

Had a look at the Spanish Gold previous stuff - can't find a picture of the wrapper - so the quest goes on.

Dont give up keep checking back I found this which suggests you are on the right track, we will keep looking.

Spanish Gold -Picture it, 1980ish Roman Road, Middlesbrough, freezing cold, Sunday morning, pocket money to spend, already selected Roy of the Rovers & 2 bags of Golden Wonder, what else sould I get with my remaining change, there, just below the Frys Chocolate Cream, it caught my eye, a small rectangular red packet, supposed to resemble an old seafaring type blokes brand of tobacco. Open up the pack and you are greeted with some brown wormy looking stuff that was trying to look like tobacco, not particularly appealing to a small child but the taste, sweet as sugar (that would probably have been the sugar) with perhaps a hint of coconut, oh the taste...

Not seen a wrapper in years, but it did exist.
It was a waxed paper "pouch", burgundy in colour with a ship on the front, maybe even a treasure chest.

Why would tobacco be in a sweets thread? Tobacco is NOT a sweet.
