Don't mind a prawn cocktail myself, usually get it as an entree with my Chinese takeaway.

oooh gosh remember Beef wellington...it was always way over priced and had overcooked steak in the middle.

...and Beef Olives....I loved them when my mum made them but they were always horrible in a restaurant.

My fave food then was a good old Scottish Haggis or black pudding supper from the chip shop. Can't beat it....sadly it's many years since I had one, but it's making my mouth water at the thought even now!

I always remember these mysterious things called 'seafood starters'

They got half a scallop shell , dumped in a few prawns and couple of sliced up crabsticks , covered it all in thousand island dressing and grilled until it was a solid paste set in the shell

looked grotesque but was actually very tasty

Lots of restaurants in North used to serve em , usually before your chicken in a basket

I remember coq au being quite popular in the 70s. Also syllabub as a dessert. Don't think I have had either for two decades at least.

As an aside, does anyone remember rum barbas? Not sure if I spelled that correctly but I thought they were great and again haven't seen them in a long time.

Ah, the choice of more "senior" relatives when we had an Indian/Chinese takeaway in the 1980's - always used to appear in the "European Dishes" part of the menu along with various omelettes and scampi!

I've not seen it any Indian/Chinese menus, though Scampi & omelettes (often mushroom) are common for those who can't handle spicy food.
