  • Unknown African tribal group

I remember in mid-70s there was this group in UK for a few months, they seemed to pop up on every late night telly prog.

A few guys playing instruments and chanting and a chorus of a dozen or so athletic young females who only wore thongs , they did a lot of leaping up and down also

Does anyone remember who they were ?

Ahhh - adolescent memories ( "look , look, nekkid wimmin on telly !" )

Two groups spring to mind - Osibisa and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but I don't know if the time is right and I definitely can't place the naked ladies!

Won't be either of those. No women in Osibisa, and LBM don't go nude

              Right
I'm gertting a bit closer to it , if you look at this dull village newsapaper it has a 1977 section and it refers to them, apparently they were Zulu

There was a song in the charts in the 70's by a group called Burundi Black who used genuine african tribal music and added some contemporary music over the top. Dunno if they made many TV appearances tho....

                    Re: Unknown African tribal group

There were some characters called KawaZulu Dance and Song Company on the royal variety show programme for that year so it was maybe them

I stayed in a Guesthouse (it was an old converted church) opposite Lochranza Castle on the Isle of Arran (roughly) in 2004 and was chatting to the owner/manager of the place. It turned out he was Paul Simon's producer during the time of the Gracelands album (not the album producer) and had numerous interesting stories, one of them including flying this band over for some concerts and their reactions to seeing snow for the first time!
