  • Mr Frosty - was he really worth it???

Throughout my childhood I desperately wanted a Mr Frosty....but my hippy mother refused to get me one...she thought they were a total waste of money.

Instead, as an alternative, she taught me how to make my own "version" - which involved bashing up ice cubes in a plastic sandwich bag and then adding a bit of cordial once it was in a cup.....

So can you confirm whether or not I was actually missing out?

Was Mr Frosty ACTUALLY any good? Or was Mummy Sausage right?

no i dont think they were good, i was a weak kids and could never turn the handle to break the ice up, easier smashing it up in a sandwich bag.

I used to suck the juice/colouring from them , leaving just a tube of ice.
A cousin of ours came on hols to us & brought a box of 'em, the idea being that there'd be one per person per day for the duration of his stay.Didn't work out that way tho....
Blue ones came out mid-80s, horribly oversweet they were.
We'd fill the ice-cube mould with diluted orange drink as DIY efforts.

I wanted a Mr Frosty for ages too, and my sister bought me one about 3 years ago for Christmas for all the harping on I did to Mum and Dad for one as a kid.

Have to say, not all it's cracked up to me. Especially the lolly moulds.

Re: Mr Frosty - was he really worth it???

I wanted, had, got bored very quickly and Mr Frosty ended up being used as a rotary cheese grater by my mom. I never liked the sweet syrups that came with the set but I kept the little penguin bottle for years afterwards. These days it's easier and quicker to make crushed ice drinks in a blender.

i just liked the fact we had him.
                      i thought he looked cool.

it was made for adults to use him to crush the ice as i could not manage it.
kids i dont think where stong enough to do it.

kids generally where not strong enough to turn the handle and crush the ice.
