  • Anyone remember the anti-swearing ad?

    Hi guys!
I just randomly remembered this ad from my childhood, but cant really remember what it was for or why it existed!
There was 2 young blokes, a black guy and a white guy I think, and the police are after them. When they catch them and handcuff them one of the guys says something like "these cuffs really chafe you know!" in a posh accent.
There was more to it than that, but thats the bit that sticks out in my mind.
Oh yeah, the tag line at the end was something like "Television doesnt have to involve swearing to make it realistic" which I always thought was abit stupid as the ad was completely unrealistic! Lol.
    Anyone remember it?

Pretty sure this was an Advertising Standards advert, saying Shows did not have to reflect reality

EDIT: I mean TV complaints department

Was it one of those "we are ITC " (?)here to make sure it stays that way ads?

Think it was making sure things weren't shown before the watershed

        Just googled It..

        ITC advert

Here the ITC promotes awareness of the 9-oclock watershed:

A car drives along a bridge, being chased by police cars. A police van, coming from the other side, swerved to block the road. The car is forced to stop. Two joyriders get out, and attack the policemen
J1 - Take that Mr. Policeman!
        Policeman - Ouch, that hurt!
The two joyriders are restrained, and bundled into a police van
J1 - I say, old chap, unhand me at once!
        J2 - I'll be dashed if I'll forget this in a hurry!
J1 - Just you wait until I get out of these nasty handcuffs... They really chafe me, you know!
Policeman - Right you lot, any more of your lip and I'll give you a right ticking off!
Voiceover - Some things just don't make sense without strong language. We're not here to ban it, we're here to see that it's broadcast at an appropriate time. ITC.

'We're here to ITC some common sense'

Don't recall that ad, but it sounds like it may have been the inspiration for Armstrong and Miller's comedy soldier duo!
