Asteroid Movie (Need help remembering)

Does anyone remember an asteroid movie that was released int he 80's or 90's? What I can remember of it was that it was a lot like a documentary but it seemed very real. Another thing I can remember is that one of the last scenes was of a screen showing infinite number of asteroids coming towards earth, also that it had seemed like the Americans had destroyed all the asteroids but instead the aliens retaliated by sending infinite number of asteroids towards Earth. There were also a number of news channels covering this, it was like a documentary/film kind movie.

Please help me out guys it may have been a **** movie but would still like to know what it is!

did the film feature aliens talking in a wierd language which they later discovered was them talking underwater, there was a woman in it that looked like a young sandra bulllock
