  • The Space Hopper - NOT 1970s

Good luck with this - it's a great site. Can I just urge a note of caution? When the BBC screened "I Love The 1970s" a few years ago, the show was quickly slated for inaccuracies. For instance, the Space Hopper was actually available in the UK in 1969 - complete with distinctive face - and highly popular. I note you list it as a 70s "arrival" - it wasn't. Please see this blogspot - http://70struth.blogspot.com/ and scroll down to see a 1969 newspaper advertisement for the hopper, from the "Cambridge Evening News".

The "I Love..." series had an agenda of hype the 70s, diss the 80s. Many pop culture researchers rounded on it when it was shown. The show actually took pop culture of the late 60s and the early 80s, touting them as fads of the 70s - a "crazy decade".

Some blogs rely on newspapers of the time for information - like this one http://80sactual.blogspot.com/ and make very different reading to the BBC's information!

Of course, the Space Hopper was a fad which reached well into the 70s and beyond. But it was not released in the 70s.

This site is a great opportunity for some accurate UK-based 70s/80s/90s nostalgia - I wish you all the very best with it. But as far as the Beeb is concerned, don't believe the 70s hype! Do your own research. It's fun, and the jigsaw of memories when properly assembled is far more meaningful and nostalgic.
