  • O, Superman

If ever there was a song to make anybody paranoid or guaranteed to be put on a CD compilation of music to make people paranoid, it would have to be Laurie Anderson's obscure classic, O, Superman which wasn't even about Superman at all. The back gorund is huh, huh, huh huh all the waythrough in a continious loop.

I remember it was mentioned on Never Mind The Buzzcocks some years back, with the quip from Marc Lemar that it sounded like John Major was getting very excited in the background.

What ever happened to Laurie Anderson? Maybe she now resides in an American Institution?? If you thought that song was bonkers you should have flipped it over and listened to the b-side "Walk The Dog"...totally unhinged!

Wow, I'd actually completely forgotten that song until I read this. By the way - thanks a lot - I've now got it playing in my brain

That song was #1 for about a month, during the summer of '81. Laurie Anderson is still going strong, and she's exhibiting some of her art in a gallery as we speak / write.

No doubt Laurie is a nice person but that song is a pile of rubbish.

For reasons that escape me may Dad bought a copy of this at a car boot sale 15 years ago.

I remember it sounding very strange when played at 33 rpm.
