  • Defining song of the 80's?

Which song captures the essence of the 80's for you?

For me it is #you spin me right round baby right round like a record baby...# (can't remember what it's called but I think it was by Dead or Alive).

Yep remember it was by Dead or Alive, but I was more into Soul of the 80's.... Luther Vandross, George Benson, Atlantic Starr, Terri Well.... wow now there's a blast from the past!

I had a lot of Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson, George Benson stuff as well. My musical tastes changed wildly and often during the 80's.

my formative years were through the 80's so my music likes changed a few times over the decade...
I'd have to agree that Relax as a defining song of the 80's...
Girls Just wanna have fun & Material World are also up there...

I think the defining song of the 80's had to be "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits

The last few lines in that song were sort of the unofficial chant of the music video generation. It's interesting to see what music videos have done to the music industry.

                  "I Want My MTV...."

It was GNR for me too, but a different song: Sweet Child O'Mine.

Actually, If I can mention one more...

It would be Aaron Neville & Linda Ronstadt 'I Don't Know Much'

                        Seriously great.

Hmmm, the song that sums up the '80s for me is probably, "Don't You Forget About Me", by the Simple Minds. It's one of those songs that just brings it all back to me.
