Talking about sandwiches, I just love Coronation Chicken flavour - I got some for the Harry Meghan wedding earlier this year and I love them so much - pity that Tesco sell so few of them.

Most of our sandwiches were more squelch then crunch. Salmon ,patty or paste. I always went safe and had cheese. I still go safe now and leave the unknown squelch to the more adventurous guests.Not really ideal for kids but if you were hungry you ate it anyway.

Nan used to have a new year party for us grandchildren. It would all be finished and over by 10.00pm.But its something I can clearly remember decades later. It was probably the only time in the year the whole family would gather in one place. Now you don't see any of the family unless it's on Facebook.

My parent's were never big on news years party's and never seemed to stay up to welcome the new year in. These days we may have a few quiet sandwiches and trifle and a small drink but that's it.

I don't remember any parties on New Years Eve, we invariably stayed in our house. At midnight, the coal mine siren would sound for a minute or so. Neighbours would come out and greet each other and drinks would be exchanged with them. We would save a couple of rockets from Bonfire Night and let them off at midnight. One other house about 3/4 miles away would do the same, but apart from our two houses, no-one else let off fireworks. In the 80s, our next door neighbours would often come round and we would make a night of it. After my grandfather's death, my grandmother would spend NYE with us and about 12.30am we would walk to her house and I would walk through her house to let in the new year.

I particularly remember NYE 1986. Our neighbours were going to a night club and it was fancy dress. Our neighbour and her friend were dressed as St. Trinian's schoolgirls and one--I think it was the friend--borrowed my old school tie. Our neighbour's husband stripped down to just his boxers and she then covered him from head to toe in bandages to make him into a mummy. They asked me to give them a lift to the night club. It was an icy night and I slipped over going down to the garage. They had had a few drinks, and I ended up with two giggly girls on the back seat and a mummy sitting next to me in the front--that was so surreal.

Glad to hear that Donald, will keep it here and go to TDML in future if I think of any others, that way I might not get such filth from Tex and his pork pie lol thankfully I've been spared casting my eyes on his yacht
