    The Eurovision Song Contest came from Point Theatre, Dublin, Ireland for the second year running.
    • Norway won with "Nocturne" sung by Secret Garden, scoring 148 points. This entry consisted of four short lines of lyrics at the very beginning and another four at the very end, with a long instrumental in between.
    • The UK's entry "Love City Groove" sung by a group Love City Groove, finished 10th with 76 points.
    • After three successive wins, Ireland's entry "Dreamin'" by Eddie Friel finished 14th place with 44 points.
    • No-one scored nul points; Germany finished last with just 1 point: "Verliebt In Dich" sung by Stone and Stone.


    Jim Davidson became the new Generation Game host at the start of its autumn 1995 run on BBC1. His version had many differences from Bruce Forsyth's version the previous year.

    The Rugby Cup 1995 took place in South Africa from 25 May to 24 June 1995.
    • Scotland reached the second round but lost out to New Zealand.
    • England made it to the semi-final against New Zealand on 18 June.
    • Following that, England lost the 3rd place play-off against France on 22 June and thus became 4th overall.
    • The final South Africa v New Zealand took place on 24 June; South Africa won.


    UK number one singles included:
    • Cher Chrissie Hynde and Neneh Cherry - "Love Can Build A Bridge"
    • Robson and Jerome - "Unchained Melody"
    • Robson and Jerome - "I Believe"
    • Michael Jackson - "Earth Song"


    Microsoft released Windows 95 on 24 August 1995.
