    Raymond Cusick RIP

Raymond Cusick, designer of the Daleks, has died aged 84 after a short illness, the BBC reported yesterday. Ray, who was an in-house BBC designer at the time, came up with the iconic design in less than a day in 1963, after writer Terry Nation said he wanted the Daleks to appear to glide across the floor. Fifty years later, the Daleks are still instantly identifiable to millions and have made the BBC a fortune, while Terry Nation died a wealthy man due to the merchandise rights and his family still profit from them. Sadly, as a BBC employee, Ray never saw a penny of it...
