That's really nice for you George

A bit of an update for you - I have just looked at my latest credit card statement and I can precisely give you the details:

    Find My Past - 12.95

    Ancestry.co.uk - 58.20 (although that is for 12 months I believe).

    Re: Researching family history

Just had a great email response from the Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock - although they recommended things that I have already done such as join Find My Past and Ancestry, they mostly referred to parish records and all that. I may contact the Nottingham Central Library as well with the same correspondence.

I do know that my great-great-great-grandmother only seemed to be 14 when she married my great-great-great grandfather in 1820, and that is why I might have made a mistake - was the legal age as low as that back then? - especially if one needed to have parental permission if one was under the age of 21?

I was referring to Find My Past rather than Ancestry with regards to the previous post, by the way...

I bookmarked some of the pages that I had found, and I was thinking of putting the links on emails to relatives, but then I realised that they would have to join up themselves in order to see them.

All the same, despite having to pay to use the service, I do think that it is worth it.

    Re: Researching family history

I have just posted an A4 envelope to Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock, enclosing 20 pages printed from the Find Your Past website that has details of my ancestors mentioned on 19th century Census forms and marriage records - I am not hoping for much but it will be interesting if they can help as my family had connections with Derbyshire (Tibshelf and Codnor area) in the mid 19th century.

No, they are separate websites and I had to pay for both of them individually - I believe that it is a one off payment as I didn't see any mention of anything like weekly or monthly payments. There are options on Find Your Past depending on what you are searching for, and the cost may vary in that respect - I didn't choose the cheapest or the most expensive. Have a look on those websites yourself and you will find out a bit more about them.

The website is www.findmypast.co.uk/ if you want to have a look for yourself. I think that Ancestry.co.uk is a similar amount - I was doing this as a favour for a relative of mine who is compiling her family tree.

I am one of those people who would get put off if something is too expensive (I never do Premium Rate stuff), but in the log run, a tenner is good value to track down one's own family history back over two centuries.
Was the tenner to cover both websites AND is it a one-off payment or is that for a week / month / year ??
