It happened to me back in 1997, and Christmas did feel different than in previous years.

Do you know, I feel like that at the moment as well. Isn't this the time of year when Boots and Argos have their Christmas catalogues out? - the latter who have now scrapped their traditional catalogue, had a Christmas version available in October which has roughly the same number of pages as the main catalogue did in the 1970s and 1980s.

Christmas is the time when we think of loved ones who have past

I think that we are far too focused at this moment in time on the coronavirus pandemic to think directly on what we will be doing or what will be happening - for example, I am assuming that church services (seen on TV and elsewhere); the Queen's Christmas message; and TV events such as the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures are almost certainly to be affected by the lockdown. The "Sale Starts 10 am Boxing Day" stores will probably be reduced as well.

However, I don't think that Christmas can be completely cancelled - the Santa's Grotto tradition will be decreased due to the social distancing, and even Father Christmas himself would probably take it a bit easier this year. Ironically, I can focus more on self-distancing a lot more than most other people, and that is the situation that could help me in the long run.

We do need to get Hallowe'en, Bonfire Night, and the Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday events out of the way first - then we usually see signs of Christmas in the shops in most years.
