    Watched this film many years ago, it was all a bit dr who for my taste but i know it became a minor cult classic

    Correct, of course! Great film, very spooky when I first watched it, special effects seem a bit wobbly now but still enjoyable!

    I think you are referring to Quatermass and the Pit, made in 1967 with Andrew Keir as Quatermass. Interestingly, the superior 1958 BBC serial where Andre Morell played Quatermass had the station as Hobbs Lane--no idea why lane became end in the film version.
