This was a Western/Kung fu series which ran from 1972 1975. The main character was Kwai Change Caine who was played by David Caradine. I am not sure if he left or got banished from the Shoalin temple, but he made his way to America where he became a drifter who always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to help people.
