He was one of the most famous and revered athletes of his Generation. He won the 1500m gold medal at the 1980 and 1984 Olympic games. Along with Steve Cram and Steve Ovett he was one of a trio of sucessful British Middle Distance runners in the 1980's.In 1992 he removed himself from a fair few people's affections (mostly Labour supporters) by becoming a Member of Parliament for the Conservatives.Now he heads up the committee organizing the 2012 London Olympic Games. Which could either be his crowning achievement of course - or quite the opposite. Watch this space!
