I have never heard of Lesney, and I had quite a few Matchbox cars when I was younger - I used to have toys that were older than I was, so the chances are that I would have been familiar with them.

Lesney was the original maker of Matchbox from 1953 to 1982.

I was asked what I wanted for Christmas and I said either a gift card from the local hobby shop or a vintage Matchbox Lesney model that I'd been watching on eBay. Hopefully I'll be getting the latter as I can't find that particular listing when I did a search indicating that it probably sold.

Yep, times were hard in the "good ole days"
