  • Admittedly I still use VHS tapes (never got used to recordable DVDs because of the incompatibility of the machines), and I would probably tape over them with my own stuff, but I think that 200 of them would even be too much for me to be in receipt of these days.

  • Home brewing seemed to be a subject that a lot of 1970s and perhaps 1980s comedies, mostly sitcoms covered - I am sure that The Good Life also did one as well....

  • Are Quosh still going? They mostly did drinks in small Tetra-Pak cartons with straws stuck on the front, and were a rival to Robinson's which I believe are still going.

I last saw a Quosh advert on TV in the early 1990s (1991 perhaps?) where they were advertsing litre bottles of the drink...

  • There was also a scene in the Bless This House film (not the series) where Sid and Trevor (played by Peter Butterworth in the film) were trying to make either wine or whisky in the garden shed while using a copper hot water tank for distilling the liquid, and it exploded and the shed caught fire.

  • The title reminded me of that On the Buses episode about home brewing. Also, I believe that Farmhouse Kitchen used to have someone on about home brewing as well....

    Take Your Pick

The only programme that was on ITV in both 1956 and 1996, and thus pre-dates Coronation Street with regards to its first transmission date, although with a huge gap of around 25 years off-air.

The original version of the game show starred Michael Miles (who died a few years after its first...

  • The State Opening of Parliament on BBC One (watched at teatime on the Sky hard drive) - the Queen did her speech and looked quite well considering that this was one of the first big things she has been involved with since the Duke of Edinburgh's death last month....

    Anyway, welcome to DYR....

  • Well, most of us will spend around two and a half months of our life celebrating our birthdays, so you might as well make the most of it, and I think that milestones such as 50, 60, 70 etc, are just as important as earlier ages.

I believe that Gareth Hale is alive and well - I just think...

I thought that World Snooker was the end of the season, but I saw on the Red button the seniors tournament that was on last week. Dennis Taylor and Hendry had a go but lost in earlier rounds.

It was a Lillywhite final because David Lilley played Jimmy White - Lilley won over JW (who always...

  • Booked tickets to see Hairspray the Musical at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool on that "special date" in the near future - it has Norman Pace out of Hale and Pace in the cast so it should be good. As coronavirus might be almost gone by then, fingers crossed, I assume that it will go ahead...

  • Nice to hear that there have been no deaths reported in England - perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel is closer than we realised? Ironic that all the deaths were in Wales - it's a bit like only East Anglia having those deaths while everywhere else don't have any to report.

    Just...

  • RIP Nick Kamen - model and singer

The 1980s model and singer Nick Kamen has died at the young age of 59 - I know that he had featured on the front cover of Look in magazine in around 1987, and I also recall taping one of Kamen's songs from Radio Trent's Top 30 one Sunday lunchtime around the same time which also got a second play on...

Movie Premieres shown on the TV

Back in the 1980s, usually at Christmas and Bank Holidays, films that you may have missed at the Odeon or the ABC (Associated British Cinemas) three or four years before finally made its appearance on the television, meaning that: A) one didn't have to take a bus ride to the cinema to see the latest...

  • I know that it has happened with the theatres - annoying that booking tickets for a performance especially for a special day like one's own birthday, and they move the performance to a week later ruining any plans. I go for another theatre that is hosting the same show on what is the same day as the...

And it happened again in Round One at the Crucible this year - Kyren beat Gary, and Kyren stayed in until beaten by Shaun Murphy in the semi-finals. It made me think as he was mentioned as K Wilson in round one and just Wilson after that - I would have thought it was have caused confusion as a result...
