Can anyone tell me if Tina Charles is still performing these days? I believe that she must be around the age of 70 - a sobering thought indeed.

It's a pity that there aren't any charactrtistic horses like Red Rum and Desert Orchid in the races these days - this year's Grand National won't be much to write home about uinlike the 1970s heyday....

Was it the FA that published the albums in the first place? I actually thought that they were tied in with ITV Sport or something, but that's was where we heard the sports results on Saturday afternoon anyway.

Tommy Cooper - 40 Years On

The fortieth anniversary of Tommy Cooper's death reminded me of that great Sunday evening entertainment show from London Weekend Television which was a direct desendent of the Trinder / Forsyth / Vaughan show from 20 years previously from the London Palladium. One of those "why not forget that...

  • It does seem that the media are focusing more on the fact that he was known for reasons other than the fact that he killed someone. The problem is that the international media has tarnished all this and made him a celebrity again, hence the Richard and Judy appearance - I believe that it was controversial...

Yes, it does make me think that one was wasting money getting repetitions of various stickers in order to complete an album - I bet that it would have cost more than twice the cost of the album itself. I wonder when Watchdog did that? - probably pre-Anne Robinson era.

    I didn't know that...

    RIP OJ Simpson

A controversial choice for Gone But Not Forgotten, but as I have seen obituaries on other websites, I thought that it would be worth writing one on here: former American footballer and NFL player, Orenthal James Simpson, known as OJ, has died of cancer aged 76. Simpson had a high profile in the mid...

I had to make do with a standard Bush radio cassette recorder instead (I started a Philips Roller cassette recorder thread on here a few years ago). The Noise Abatement Society would have sided with my "next-door-but-one" neighbour at the time, in which the number of decibels needed to be...

  • I noticed that Postman Pat lamp with the post box base in Post 85 - I can remember going to a branch of Fine Fare in late 1985, on a Saturday morning just before Christmas, and seeing a similar lampon display and wanting one for Christmas. I did get a Postman Pat lamp (as well as a yellow Tom and Jerry...

  • I wonder whether Flambards was affected by the Yorkshire TV strike of Christmas 1978, and that the 1979 episodes were actually left over from the previous year?

It made me think considering that the late Sir Paul Fox who has recently passed away at the age of 98, was actually boss of Yorkshire...

    replied to Bread
I was reading elsewhere about celebrity guest appearances on TV shows, and I read that Linda McCartney had made a guest appearance in Bread - referring to it as "Linda McCartney on Bread", which as she put her name to a frozen vegatarian food range, doesn't sound too bad as a meal in itse...

  • I have to admit that I am already feeling the effect of the clocks going forward - I have felt a bit depressed, as well as having no heat in the place. I would have thought being April that it would get warmer compared to a couple of months ago, but it is just as cold and it always seem to rain when...

  • A lot of IPC Magazines such as TV Times used to have Rothmans on their back pages in the mid 1980s, although my family didn't usually get that magazine back then. The adverts had to be abstract because the ASA wouldn't have allowed them to advertise otherwise....

  • Was it pronunced, Sello, Kello, or Chello? My money is on the CH pronunciation.

It rings a bell, but I cannot remember how it was pronunced....

    replied to Dewhurst butchers
The reason why independent butchers shops seem to disappear from the High Street is because of that shark called the "Supermarket" taking over the butcher, as well (who do you think you are kidding, Mr Tesco?) as well as the baker and the candlestick maker. Dewhursts were all over the place...

  • When the Scaffold sung their 1967 song Thank U Very Much [sic] (the song which was made even more famous as a result of the 1980s Cadbury's Roses adverts), they mentioned "Family Circle" in the lyrics - I wonder whether they were referring to the biscults or the women's magaine of the same...

  • Only five weeks to go, but people are talking about it already!

Listened to Olly Alexander's song Dizzy on YouTube for the first time this week (I nearly wrote put Olly Murs on here!) Hearing the first few seconds, it felt very "Pet Shop Boys in 1987" to me, especially during...

  • When my parents used to shop at Sainsbury's Broad Marsh Shopping Centre (the store closed in 1994, while the shopping centre closed in around 2017), I used to see Family Circle along with Living magazine perched at the checkouts in around 1986, priced 65p (displayed along with the chocolate bars which...

  • I vaguely remember Walkers doing pizza flavour crisps, and not the Bitza Pizza ones. I bet that pizza flavour was suggested several times duirng the Walkers Crisps' Do Us a Flavour campaign of 2008 - rather than hedghog flavour.

I only remember yellow oackets used for the toasted cheese...
