  • looking for Bido/Dibo Construction kits, not sure if the name is correct (not bildo)

I am unable to find references to these kits anywhere, even on the lego forums. I had these in 1983/4 they were german I think in origin, at least the box had german writing on them when I got the first set. (not fisherteknik).

They were named Dibo/Bido or something, (not bildo as that was lego or similar) and I was given a main set for Christmas, you could build a full house with windows, doors etc, so was a sort of construction toy, but had accessory packs to expand the kit.

It consisted of panels and connecting pieces, with joints that could be used to interconnect other pieces, and thus make nearly anything you could think of. I spent hours making transformable toys, bikes, guns, houses, etc from it.

You could actually buy the accessory packs almost anywhere, at least where I was living down south, and they were around £3-£5 and came with themed triangular shaped boxes to match. If you got the AA gun you would have camo netting on the outisde of the box, other boxes like the motorbike packs had similar themes on them.

Unfortunately I have only memories to reconstruct the pieces from, so I used google sketchup to do the work. Someone suggested I post here from facebook instead to see if anyone recognises it. I have never been able to find any references except where I posted the same question some 5 years ago, that has now spread all over google, but never recieved an answer...

A puzzle indeed...maybe someone here can help me?

I have attached examples that I have rendered from memory and its a tough job when you have no surviving pieces, however someone must have had some of these kits?

I just need the name, i spent forever on ebay, german construction kit sites and no one seems have any references for it...

I think I've got something similar with mostly blue and white pieces (like in the third picture) to make houses etc. - just can't find it at the moment...
EDIT - Just looked at the pictures above close up - it's not what I had.

Considering how common it was back then, I am surprised that there is not a single reference to it anywhere. Me and my brother both got a set each, but he lost interest, where I found I could make some neat stuff with it, the "transformer" robot in the picture above (yellow), is just one of the models it could make, there was a bike too, this introduced the green pieces into the sets, but it was primarily yellow, red, and white pieces... The larger set had doors, windows, and even fencing. Each piece has a small indent in it, so you could just press the larger pieces into it.

The accessory kits came in clear plastic bags inside the box (shown above), and when you made the model inside you would have a sort of backdrop to show off your model kit. I just regret not having kept any of it.

By design it seems rather simple, but it could make some interesting items if you had plenty of pieces...

        Hello,

I know you posted this a while ago, but someone pointed this out to me. I have one of these sets, but without any instructions, I can't begin to know how to assemble it. Can you give me more info on this? (Were you supposed to do a single construction, did you have any diagrams for it, etc) Here's my set

        thx

Re: looking for Bido/Dibo Construction kits, not sure if the name is correct (not bil

It depended on the set you received, each one had instructions, or a diagram on the box that I am aware of. Each box was often themed as well to match the item you were making. Bikes, houses, transformers, weapons etc... You have the green set, that was the military themed one that matches the one I had. However you have many more pieces.

each initial kit came in a large box, followed by smaller accessory boxes that you could buy locally for a time...

Those pictures above are rendered from memory, but they came in many colors as you can see... 10 years old when i had that set, cant believe that I was able to remember it...

The house set had yellow pieces with red plates and white tiles, windows, doors etc... The big question is, where did you get it from and where can i buy it from, are you selling it?

I have been looking for this item for 30 years... Like a dream come true, just to see someone else with a set after all this time?

Re: looking for Bido/Dibo Construction kits, not sure if the name is correct (not bil

It's perfectly fine. I have had these for as long as I can remember. They were my brother's I think (he has passed away). I always imagined this as a perfectly assembled jeep or something. So, from what you're saying, the built piece was a little more "abstract", right?

Also, if I recall, my parents traveled all around Europe in the 70s, but, of note, they were in Austria, England and the US. Could have been Austria, perhaps...

I was hoping to find a diagram for it, but PM me your e-mail. I really wanted to assemble it to see how it looks like, but if I decide to part with it, I'll consider sending it your way.

Well that is about all i can find, the adverts look correct, but where do we go from here? I cant find any more details, apart from the trademark from 1975, at least now I know im not imagining it...

In regards to your pieces, may i ask where are you located UK/USA/Europe?

I have not heard from you in some time and I am still wondering if you are up for a conversation regarding your set, even though your it is not complete, would it be possible to talk to you ? are you located in the UK? I do not want to buy it off you, but if possible I would like to view the set? Its simply been a dream of mine to actually see this set does exist and that I was not imagining it from my childhood. If you are in the UK, or speak English and would like to chat, please send me a message...

                    Thanks Daz

Hi, I have some pieces of dibo, not a whole set and I don't remember where it came from, possibly a jumble sale. As a kid it was always mixed in with my lego, but there was never enough to do anything with. It's very little use as it is, so thought I could sell it on ebay to someone who already had some. I read the name on the back of the pieces and thought I'd google it, I'm amazed at how few results I got. The only one with any sort of lead was this thread, so I signed up just to post this.
