  • 1980s PICKWICK TELL A TALE LADYBIRD HORROR CLASSICS: DRACULA

    Hi Everyone!

I know there have been previous threads relating to Ladybird Horror Pickwick Tell A Tale cassette recordings and I have managed to get all but one of the Horror Classics: Dracula. I know it was uploaded by RetroGhoul but side one of cassette is no longer available or has expired.

So I put it out there: does anyone have a copy of the audio Ladybird cassette recording of Dracula they could upload to a file sharing site? Or if someone does know where I can download it from, please let me know on here or send me a message with the link. Thanks

      Hi!
Yes there has been a previous thread on this, closed now, but Retro Ghoul was doing a fine job preserving these recordings. You could try to private-message him about Dracula - i need to get that side1 link as well!
I am working on preserving some of my Pickwick Tell-a-Tale tapes. I need to get the leads first. But... I have Journey To The Centre of the Earth which is in the best quality of my tapes i think. It really is a great tape though - brilliant music and still exciting. Also i have The Lost World, although the quality is fading a bit - i am trying to preserve them fast. Also i have Robin Hood, and A Christmas Carol - however someone has put this one on Youtube! Also on Youtube someone has managed to work out who composed much of the music from the Pickwick tapes - from Wagner to Berlioz etc. I am also going to preserve a non-Pickwick horror cassette with Dracula's Guest and The Haunted Dolls House on it - read by the same guy who did the Pickwick Horrors, and is definitely within the same vein.
Anyway soon i will be attempting preservation of what i have and when done i will write on here, and anyone interested can pm me for the link.
I do believe these audio memories of Pickwick tapes badly need to be preserved. Anyone else who has any please get in touch and hope to share these with you.

      Thanks!

      Russ

        Hi!!
Please, please, please could u let me know what the music is on Journey to the center of the earth? I had the tape when I was younger and I listened to it so many times that the tape broke. I have researched everywhere to find out what the music was but have never been able to find out.

        Thanks
        Joe

If anyone could point me toward audio uploads for the ladybird horror classic The Hound of the Baskervilles I would be eternally grateful - it meant a lot to me and my sister as kids. Many thanks.

It's a shame the cassettes didn't come in boxes, a few more might have survived!

That sounds fantastic, I'd be really interested in those files when you manage to make them. I used to have that cassette and I'd love to hear it again

Hi there. I'm new here and spotted this thread about Pickwick Tell-a-Tale tapes, specifically the horror releases. I think I missed them the first time around, but they were re-released in the 90s as stand alone Pickwick tapes that I bought with my pocket money in Asda and elsewhere. I have Dracula, Frankenstein and The Hound of The Baskervilles on tape and have converted them all to MP3 if anyone's interested. I'd love to get MP3 versions of any that I don't have, and not only the horror releases as Journey to the Centre of the Earth etc sound fantastic! I've also got The Last of the Mohicans and Kidnapped if anyone's interested.

                            Hi Breck,

Glad you found the link. In response to your original thread reply, yes I now have Dracula but thanks for the offer. Hope you and your son enjoy continue to enjoy the recordings. They should definitely be re-issued again. Mind you, I got them from Woolworths. Perhaps they should 're-issue' Woolworths as well! lol
