  • 1 wish i'd want to happen

For years it has fazed me why not person has (as far asI know to the best of my knowledge - though i'm wiling to be corrected, if so) - that why not one inventor has come up with the idea of reversing recorded what was on a video tape to what was on it before, so it can be re-watched.

I am no electrical talent/whizz to even anywhere near such a degree, but on some of my very old video recording's, you can see what was taped before as the tape ages/get's used constantly. It just ames me with the new technology (or rather advances of the last 15 or so years), why this can not be achieved I just so wish it could be so, that this could occur one day.

I've also recorded over many things that I've regretted later on.

The only way would be to somehow have a memory like a hard drive & an undo feature.

My mum taped over the only copy of my wedding day video (vhs tape) with an episode of Coronation Street!

Thanks for your thought of how it could be done, Richard. I always knew that the idea had potiental, though I don't know how a memory stick could connect to a Video Recorder/Tape. May-be it could with a DVD machine though i'm truly unsure about a Video.

That's terrible. Old people should be kept away from all types of technology, they only manage to mess it up.

                sad to hear this.
if only the plastic had been broken off the tape this could not happen.

yeah she was meant to be editing it at the time and adding titles and music,oh well what done is done. It was 13 years ago,no point crying over spilt milk.

Yep I'm the same, there's a certain video tape that I wished I'd broke the tab off as well.
It's a home video tape of all my mates and myself, we had spent hours recording ourselves and doing sketches and generally being silly. Then further hours editing it onto the said VHS tape some parts had music dubbed over the top to add to the feel of it, we were all really proud of it.
Then one of my mates wanted to borrow it and his brother kindly taped him the most boring show ever about getting a job in the media industry that was on at about 1 in the morning, just bunging in the first tape he could lay his hands on.
All the original source tapes are gone BUT a small percentage of the VHS tape still exists that hadn't been recorded over and has now been digitised.
Can you watch it?....Hmmm maybe not!

Sometimes the plastic tab was no barrier! Anyone use sticky tape to get recording milage out of old VHS movies or other 'not to be taped over' tapes?

I reused 1-2 of the training videos I saved from the bin at my college.

I did make sure there was nothing really interesting on them first.
