  • "Mecchano-like" toy?

Does anyone remember a "Mecchano-like" toy (I'm fairly sure it wasn't their brand) that was around in the late-80's?

It was similar to regular Mecchano in that it had plates with holes in and little rivets that held your creations together. Unlike typical Mecchano the pieces were all plastic and I think the pieces were predominantly blue white and orangey-red. The set came with a sort of plastic "drill" or "riveter" that put all the little rivets in place. I reckon it was some sort of ratchet mechanism rather than powered.

It might even have been Mecchano but I really don't think it was. IIRC the box had a sort of light blue grid graphic over white and a sort of "octagonal" font for the logo with gradual shading (tho I'm sketchy on that one). Imagine a font somewhat in shape like bigfoot (

Sounds like Fisher-Price Construx. My cousin had a set and if I remember, the little rivets were yellow. There was also Bolt 'n' Build and Constructo(Made in W Germany).

I was trying to remember the name of this.

I remember the TV ads for it around 1984-5. At least one friend of mine had a set.

The set came with a clockwork motor for powering the finished models.

Wow, great memory! That's the one. Thanks!

I can't remember what model I had but it looks like they only every made two in total. For some reason my memory is leaning towards the "Mark 2" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bolt-n-Bui...p2047675.l2557

It's still a mystery to me tho as there seems to be absolutely zero evidence (ie leftover pieces etc) of it ever being in my parents house. So now I'm wondering if I ever had it at all!

          Anyway, thanks again.
