Hi - Gamer here. I still love my Commodore 64 and I love reading/collecting old computer magazines. Discovering old games that passed me by at the time is a real joy as I don't really play modern games. I tend to post on other dedicated Retro Gaming forums mostly (traitor!) like RetroGamer or Lemon64

yeah same here really i've been gaming since i was about 5, so around 25 years.

grew up with the Megadrive and C64, i still have my C64 in my mate's loft, but most of the retro games i play now are on emulators on my PC, speaking of which i just played a hacked Sonic 1 rom the other day, which added Super Sonic and spin dash to it, something i've always wanted.

i've played hundreds and hundreds of games over the years and owned the majority of consoles, but now i only have a PS3, PS2, DS Lite, GBA SP and Sega Saturn, as well as a 2nd faulty Saturn and a faulty PS1.

Internet Archive has a great selection of computer/video game magazines to read online/download.

that's pretty cool, just a shame they don't have the more popular Megadrive mags i wouldn't mind having a look through again.

Re: Where's all the love for gaming?

I was mad on computer games as a kid, mostly spectrum then amiga but now Im mostly X-Box 360 with my son (play on line a lot - really good fun on line - love winding all the yanks up - they take it way to serious)

play a lot of the older games on emulaters as i didnt really look after the machines I had as a kid so they mostly got broke or replaced with newer machines

favourite Speccy game was Atic Atac but loved Manic Minor and Jet Set Willy and paper boy

in the nineties it was Sonic the hedgehog and Mario Bros (like most people)

and as I said now its Call of duty (world at war is still the best of them all but Black ops is good
Age is just a number - If yours bothers you stop counting

Re: Where's all the love for gaming?

i play CoD online with my clan quite a bit, but i miss the good old days of having all your mates round and all being huddled round a 15" portable TV, with a PS1 and a multitap lol, playing things like WWF Smackdown, International Track & Field, and Crash Team Racing.

i was mad about games from an early age too, i grew up with Commodore 64 and Megadrive, while also playing the Spectrum, NES and SNES at my cousin's house.

my first fave game was probably Dizzy or Bruce Lee, on the Spectrum.

i dont bother with online gaming.
i just stick to playing my old consoles.

i also watch games for hrs on end on youtube.

a lot of games i never had i watch them through.

very few modern games i like or have an interest in.

One day those games will be old too Darren. Will you like them then?

There's plenty of newer games that have that old feel to them.

                          Spelunky
                          Dark Souls
                          Retro City Rampage
                          FTL
                          Cave Story
                          Hotline Miami
                          Shatter
                          Super Hexagon
                          Super Meat Boy
                          Monster Hunter

If there's nothing in that list that doesn't take your eye Darren, you seriously have no heart. Old style games didn't die, they just got good at hiding. Look at these games on Youtube and see what you think.

Spelunky is one of the finest games to come out over the last few years. Simple concept, but it has so much depth.
