Trying to remember a possible ITV mystery show I watched an episode of in the 90s

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone will be able to help me.

In the 90s (pretty sure it was then) I remember watching an episode of what seemed to be a mystery type show on possibly ITV.
What I remember is someone finding a body hanging in the hallway of a big house near the beginning of the episode and then there was some sort of investigation for the rest of the episode. But the thing that really stuck with me was that at the end of the episode the same person that found the body at the beginning returns to the house to find the body hanging back there again.

I was quite young at the time so the details are quite hazy, but I do remember those two moments stuck out to me. I know that I found it very creepy.

Just wondering if anyone remembers this show or if it was from a series?

I can remember something similar where the program starts with a body of a woman found hanging in the back room of an old house. It revolved around the skeletal remains of a man who went missing years ago being found in a lock up sitting in a car. It turns out she was his lover. He was thought to have been a member of the IRA but it turns out he was actually working undercover at the time he went missing. If I remember rightly during the investigation the woman's and mans entanglement becomes apparent and the woman hangs herself near the end, not long before she is discovered.

Thank you for your help, that does sound like what I seen all those years ago. I was very young at the time so obviously the details are quite hazy for me. I just remember thinking it was very creepy and it's stuck with me ever since! I wonder if I can now work out what show it was.
