  • One Small Step.

Without doubt the most momentous event for me was watching Neil Armstrong take his first steps on the Lunar surface. Then utter those immortal words "One Step For man.. One Giant Leap For Mankind". It was 1969 and I had been working for only 12 months. I was out on my lunch hour and watching the event on a television in an electrical shop when a television journalist walked up to me and asked me what I was feeling at that very moment. I looked into his eyes and then at the camera and just became mute. I eventually managed a few mumbled words. Watched myself on the news that evening much to my disjoy. Sounded like an absolute drongo.

I saw Apollo X but missed Apollo XI!

I also remember Apollo XIII and the "will they, won't they make it" tension was really intense!
Time flies like the wind, fruit flies like bananas - go figure!

I remember Apollo 8 better than apollo 11 for some reason, possibly as Apollo 8's mission was at Christmas time. I was only 6 at the time and it impressed me that while I was opening my presents, those guys were circling the moon. I can also recall seeing the lunar rover with an astronaut driving and another singing "I was strolling on the Moon one day" to the tune of I was strolling in the park one day. Funny how something so trivial sticks in your mind after 4 decades.
