  • "Like a kipper tie, Sir?" Animated ad from the 80's

Help! I've been trying to remember an advert from when I was little (early 80's I think).

It was a drawn advert, and I think the characters were fish! One of them bought a suit, the other said to him, "Like a kipper tie, Sir?", to which he replied all in one word, in a very English accent/deep voice "oh-now-don't-be-ridiculous".

No sure if it was for a credit card....?

I used to say the "oh-now-don't-be-ridiculous" bit all the time....but no-one else remembers it!

If anyone has any ideas what it could be, that would stop me thinking I'm mad!

    Rings a bell!
but can;t find anything at the moment. Only animated ads like that I can think of were for Midland Bank or Visa "flexible friend".

Why would a Fish need a suit?

Looks like I'm several months late with this reply but here goes....

I think it was an advert for a snack called "Scruples". I can't remember much more about the ad than what you describe....but I think I can remember the lines:

He wants a Scruple. He wants a Scruple.
Like a kipper tie sir? It would really really suit you.

I think the scruples themselves might have been some sort of tube shaped wafer or something.

Anyway, It's all a bit hazy so it wouldn't surprise me if I imagined the whole thing. It was a while ago! If it's any consolation it's been driving me nuts too!
