  • Boil-in-the-Bag Pizza

I'm sorry if the title just put you off your tea.

I was watching a re-run of Heston's Chocolate Factory Feast last night, when he mentioned that the 1960s was the era of boil-in-the-bag pizza.

I'd love to research this. Did it really exist? Who made them, and when?

    Any information very gratefully received.

i think that was sarcasm on the snail porridge peddlers part.

Sounds very strange, like the tinned cook breakfast & omelate someone my sister knew at university had bought from them on their birthday.

Lol. Interesting watching one of those programmes about the 60s that's been on this week, saying how someone tried to flog pizza at a concert but nobody would touch it (new foreign muck) so they had to cut it up, fold the slices and pitch them as tomato sandwiches

Also reminds me of a Good Housekeeping cookery book that my mam still has from the early 70s. It has a special 'foods of the world' section in the back where the adventurous can learn all about pasta, yoghurt and curry

My Dad didn't know what a pizza was until he went to Italy as a student, in spite of hearing mentioned in American songs long before.

I've got one of my Mum's old international cook books from the same time that makes some fairly mundane dishes seem exotic.

              That's a relief - thanks!

I guess in the back of my mind was that story from last year about how some top chefs were using boil-in-the-bag techniques in their kitchens - it caused quite a fuss if I remember.

When I saw the title I thought someone was taking the Michael and was all set to delete it
