    Re: General Election 2019

Because of going to the Polling Station in the wet weather (why did it have to rain today of all days?) I think I have a cold coming on - I suppose I could blame it on Boris Johnson...
  2. Re: RIP David Bellamy - TV presenter and botanist

I thought he came from the North of England but he was born in London, although a couple of the North East areas on BBC News mention Bellamy's passing as some of his organisations were based there, I...

    Re: General Election 2019

Got to Vote at 1.15 pm, and of course it was pouring with rain (just like on the day of the local elections back in May) and I have wet feet - listened to the World at One (no political talk there of...

Re: Christmas When You Were Growing Up

Another two arrived today - I knew who sent one of them because of the number of stamps he uses on the envelope, half a dozen of them, although they do total to the correct postage amount!

    Re: Ice Cream Vans

A local ice cream van might have played The Entertainer as well - I have in my mind an ice cream van playing it.

    Re: General Election 2019

Ironically enough, I get a lot more excited about General Elections as an adult as I would have done over Christmas and birthdays as a child - I suppose that it is democracy in action and as...
  7. RIP David Bellamy - TV presenter and botanist

Whilst we have two well-known facially-challenged gentleman who are making their mark in their own ways this December, (the two in question are obviously Father Christmas and Jeremy Corbyn), the news...

Re: Christmas When You Were Growing Up

I do sympathise, Daniella - I won't say that "things can only get better", as that has had political overtones in in the past, and that can be rather sensitive at this moment in time... ;)

    Re: General Election 2019

I saw him on the BBC News website putting something to a van or something - that must have been his stint as a milkman.

I just love the way the party leaders contradict each other and say...

    Re: Christmas Day TV 2019

    Answering my own question...

The good old Christmas TV listings magazines have made it into the shops - I got myself a Christmas Total TV Guide, a Radio Times and a TV Times from a local WHSmith.

    Re: Kidney stones

I chose George 1978 for all the obvious reasons, and only then when I joined I did realise the obvious similarities between my own username and Richard1978's name - it is indeed a coincidence that we...

    Re: General Election 2019

It will be strange that it will still be dark outside when the Polling Stations open at 7.00 am.

If I was Prime Minister calling an election, I would choose the Thursday which is the closest one...

    Re: Kidney stones

This is why I chose my real name George when I joined - it is quite a common name and one that I am used to all my life! :)

    Re: Kidney stones

I am sorry to hear that you had to spend Christmas Day in hospital - my family had a pre-Christmas birth a few years back, and thankfully the mother got home in time for Christmas, although the...

Re: Christmas When You Were Growing Up

I think that because I live on my own, I am obviously not going to receive as many cards as a family address would, which is why it is special when someone sends me one in the post.

Re: Christmas When You Were Growing Up

My own late father (who had been married twice) had seven kids, and so I have six siblings - incidentally, one of them was one of the people who sent me a Christmas card in the post yesterday.

    Re: General Election 2019

Thursday 6th December 1923 to be precise - Stanley Baldwin was the incumbent Prime Minister for the Conservatives; Ramsay MacDonald was the Labour opposition leader; and HH Asquith was the Liberal...

    Re: General Election 2019

This year, (as well as other things happening), I haven't been able to concentrate on Christmas properly because my mind has been focused on the General Election, and I think that this has also been...

Re: Christmas When You Were Growing Up

The postman came today and I am pleased to say that I had four lovely Christmas cards in the post from two relatives, a friend, and even somewhere where I went when in holiday - I just hope that all...

Many thanks - it would be interesting which local cinemas would have shown it.

Re: Christmas When You Were Growing Up

I have always felt that the more Christmas cards I receive, the more I feel that I am in the Christmas mood and want to celebrate it.
  23. Re: Films given a different rating by the local town council than by the BBFC

Did The Shining ever make it to the cinemas? - before my time if it did.

    Re: Kidney stones

There are a lot of things in life that are worse for men - I think that we get our share of those things which happen to be different to women.
